Charlottetown Airport Authority Releases 2024 Results, Provides Update on Terminal Expansion Project at Annual Meeting

Charlottetown, PE – The Charlottetown Airport Authority Inc. (CAA) proudly unveiled its annual report for the fiscal year 2024 at its Annual Public Meeting this morning at YYG Charlottetown Airport. Andrew Pierce, Porter Airlines Vice President of Network Planning and Reporting, was the guest speaker for the event.

Key highlights from the 2024 annual report include:

1. Record-Breaking Passenger Numbers: CAA reported another year of record-breaking passenger traffic, as 410,733 passengers travelled through YYG. This demonstrates the airport’s vital role in connecting Prince Edward Island to the world.
2. Infrastructure Development: Progress on the air terminal building expansion project, with the commencement of Phase 1b, and continued planning for Phases 2 and 3. This ongoing development is crucial to meeting the growing demands of our passengers and airlines.
3. Enhanced Connectivity: CAA received strong support from its airline partners, with Air Canada, Porter, WestJet, and Flair providing service to six destinations.
4. Sustainability Initiatives: The launch of new sustainability and accessibility plans underscores CAA’s dedication to responsible and inclusive growth. Achieving Level 3 Airport Carbon Accreditation is a major accomplishment and demonstrates a commitment to reducing our environmental impact.
5. Economic Impact: The presence of YYG Charlottetown Airport continues to be a major economic driver for Prince Edward Island, generating a significant economic impact for the province.

CAA Board Chair Steve Loggie kicked off the meeting and thanked passengers, partners, and employees for their patronage in 2024. “The support that we received from our airline partners and passengers drove the positive results revealed today. That support and the steadfast commitment of our employees will allow us to continue to grow and thrive in the future,” Loggie remarked. “We look forward to working with all of our partners and the community as we strive to provide expanded air services and facilities to meet their needs.”

The Honourable Zach Bell, Minister of Fisheries, Tourism, Sport and Culture for the Province of PEI, as well as City of Charlottetown Mayor Philip Brown provided remarks at today’s meeting.

“The Charlottetown Airport Authority’s continued growth and innovation are vital to our province’s tourism success,” said Honourable Zack Bell, minister of Fisheries, Tourism, Sport and Culture. “As we celebrate another record year, the Province of Prince Edward Island remains committed to supporting initiatives that enhance visitor experiences and strengthen our Island’s connections to the world. We will work with YYG and regional partners to expand air access and restore critical connections that support business travel and our tourism industry. ”

“On behalf of the City of Charlottetown, I would like to extend my heartfelt congratulations to the hardworking staff at YYG for another record-breaking year in 2024,” said Mayor Brown. “With more than 410,000 people passing through our airport last year, this incredible growth is fueling tourism, business and new opportunities for Charlottetown and all of Prince Edward Island, and for that, I thank all staff members for their continued dedication and commitment.”

The Airport Authority also took the time to provide an update on the Air Terminal Building Expansion project. Phase 1b will be completed later this year while the design work for Phases 2 and 3 are nearing completion. This project is a $40 million investment in YYG that is planned to be completed in 2027.
