FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Charlottetown, PE – The Charlottetown Airport Authority Inc. (CAA) proudly unveiled its annual report for the fiscal year 2025 at its Annual Public Meeting this morning at YYG Charlottetown Airport, now officially known as Charlottetown Alexander B. Campbell Airport. The meeting brought together community leaders, airline partners, and stakeholders to reflect on a year of steady performance and significant capital investment, and to look ahead to a strong 2026.

Key highlights from the 2025 annual report include:
1. Passenger Traffic: YYG welcomed 391,086 passengers in 2025, reflecting a 4.8% decrease from the record year in 2024, primarily attributable to a 7.2% reduction in seat capacity across the network. Despite this, load factors improved throughout the year, demonstrating continued strong demand for air travel to and from Prince Edward Island.
2. Air Service Development: Air Canada continued to lead in capacity, providing more seats than all other carriers combined. Porter Airlines launched new jet service to Toronto Pearson in June, increasing to daily service by the end of the month. WestJet delivered strong results on its Alberta routes, and Flair returned with three weekly flights. Air Transat announced new sun destination service from YYG during the year and recently completed a successful inaugural Cancún season, setting the stage for expanded winter programming in 2026–2027.
3. Terminal Expansion Progress: YYG made substantial progress on the Air Terminal Building (ATB) Expansion in 2025. Phase 1B advanced into key operational milestones, including the opening of the expanded check-in hall — a significant improvement for passengers and airline partners. Phases 2 and 3 moved into active delivery, with construction underway and the project on track for completion in 2027. Total capital expenditures for the year were $20.6 million.
4. Strong Financial Performance: Despite a modest decline in passenger volumes, the Authority delivered a strong financial result. Revenue of $15.1 million exceeded plan by approximately $497,000, driven by higher passenger-related income, including aeronautical fees, parking, car rental concessions, and Passenger Facility Fees. The Authority maintained a healthy operating surplus and generated strong cash flow, supporting its ongoing capital program.
5. Sustainability and Accessibility: YYG renewed its Level 3 – Optimization Airport Carbon Accreditation and published its first Sustainability Progress Report. The Hidden Disabilities Sunflower Program launched in May, joining Autism Aviators and the Therapy Dog program as part of YYG’s growing suite of accessibility initiatives. The Authority also published its first Accessibility Progress Report.
6. Economic Impact: YYG continues to serve as a vital economic driver for Prince Edward Island, generating more than $366 million in total economic impact for the province in 2025.
CAA Board Chair Kathy Hambly opened the meeting and thanked passengers, partners, and employees for their support in 2025.
“2025 was a year of continued growth and development at YYG. The support that we received from our airline partners and passengers drove the strong results we reported today,” commented Hambly. “Our YYG team works hard to keep the airport safe, efficient and welcoming for our passengers, and we thank them for their dedication and commitment. The future is bright for YYG with the continued advancement of the Airport Terminal Expansion Project to support our long-term growth.”
Sean Casey, Member of Parliament for Charlottetown, provided remarks at today’s meeting. The Honourable Ernie Hudson, Minister of Fisheries, Rural Development and Tourism, also offered his support for YYG and the province’s air connectivity.
“As YYG turns the page on a major expansion and looks to the future, it’s clear this airport will continue to play a central role in the life of our province,” Casey remarked. “From connecting Islanders to the world to supporting hundreds of millions in economic activity, Charlottetown Airport is a cornerstone of our community, and its future is bright.”
“YYG plays a vital role in connecting our communities to the world and welcoming visitors to experience everything our Island has to offer,” noted Minister Hudson. “Tourism is a cornerstone of our economy, and strong, reliable air access is essential to its continued growth. I want to recognize the leadership and partners who are working collaboratively to enhance connectivity, improve the traveller experience, and support sustainable development. Together, we’re ensuring that PEI remains an accessible, vibrant destination for years to come.”
CEO Doug Newson provided an update on the annual results and the continued progress of the terminal expansion project, highlighting milestones achieved in 2025 and the work ahead for Phases 2 and 3.
“2025 was a year that demonstrated the resilience and long-term confidence we have in YYG,” said Doug Newson, CEO of the Charlottetown Airport Authority. “While the broader aviation sector faced headwinds, we stayed focused on what matters most — investing in our infrastructure, supporting our airline partners, delivering an exceptional experience for our passengers, and strengthening the connections that PEI depends on. With the terminal expansion well underway, a strong 2026 air service lineup ahead, and today’s historic airport renaming, I couldn’t be prouder of what this team has built and where we are headed.”
The Airport Authority also provided a detailed update on the Air Terminal Building Expansion project. Phase 1B was completed in the first half of 2026, while Phases 2 and 3 construction is actively underway. The $43 million project remains on track for full completion in 2027 and will significantly increase terminal capacity, modernize passenger flow, and position YYG for continued growth.
Today’s Annual Public Meeting also coincides with the official renaming of the Charlottetown Airport to the Charlottetown Alexander B. Campbell Airport, as announced by the Government of Canada. The renaming honours Prince Edward Island’s longest-serving Premier, whose legacy of connectivity and economic development closely mirrors the mission of the airport that now bears his name.
