Charlottetown, PE – The Charlottetown Airport Authority Inc. (CAA) held its Annual Public Meeting this morning, where they released CAA’s 2022 Annual Report.
Highlights:
• 2022 saw 341,649 passengers travel through YYG Charlottetown Airport.
• Passenger numbers reached 89% of 2019 levels, leading Atlantic Canada in air travel recovery.
• June to October 2022 produced record monthly passenger movements.
• Four airlines operated to seven non-stop destinations.
• Welcomed a new airline partner, Swoop.
• Total revenues increased to $11.3 million.
• Capital investments totaled $1.8 million for the year.
• Initiated a $20 million air terminal building expansion project.
• Full-scale emergency exercise was completed successfully.
• Attained Level 2 of the ACI-NA Airports Carbon Accreditation program.
“After two challenging years for our industry and our airport, we are pleased to report strong results for 2022. This includes record passenger numbers from June to October.” shares Steve Loggie, Chair of the Charlottetown Airport Authority Inc. “It is an exciting time for our airport and community. We will build on this momentum in the coming years with a larger, more efficient terminal building, and an improved overall passenger experience. On behalf of the CAA Board of Directors, I want to thank our government and airline partners and our team at YYG for the role they played in delivering these results.”
The Honourable Cory Deagle, Minister of Fisheries, Tourism, Sport and Culture, spoke at today’s meeting on behalf of the Province of Prince Edward Island.
“The Province of Prince Edward Island values our relationship with the Charlottetown Airport Authority and recognizes its importance in supporting trade, tourism, and population growth for our province. We want to see CAA not only get back to pre-pandemic levels but grow exponentially. That requires ensuring reliable air access to and from PEI,” said Minister Deagle. “The Province of Prince Edward Island is providing $1 million to CAA to help re-establish, and offer new, connections to key destinations.”
“2023 is shaping up to be another banner year at YYG”, adds Doug Newson, CEO of the Charlottetown Airport Authority. “PEI is gearing up for another strong tourism season, and we are pleased to see our airline partners respond with additional capacity this year. We are especially looking forward to welcoming our newest airline partner, Porter Airlines, as they launch a non-stop Ottawa service on May 17. We thank them and all our airline partners: Air Canada, WestJet, Swoop, and Flair, for their commitment to Prince Edward Island.”
